HOW TO
Celebrate your first Shabbat.
NEW TO SHABBAT?
4 Easy Steps to Your 1st Shabbat
Celebrating your 1st Sabbath and learning to have a special day or "date"with God is easy.
Date
Step 1 - Appointed Time
As the sun begins to set on a Friday night, prepare to experience a special time, an appointed time, a set apart time, a date with your Creator. The date will last 24 hours until sunset on Saturday night. As your date ends, it may feel bittersweet because as the sun sets on Saturday night, the date is over.
REST
Step 2 - No Work
God's command is to not do any ordinary work from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. Step away from your job, or however you make money, to simply rest. He wants you to experience His power and His presence in renewing your mind, body and spirit so you can be effective for Him and others.
Convocate
Step 3 - Connect
Another command of the Sabbath is to convocate or connect with others who also take the day off to honor His Holy day. Seeking out a synagogue, church or community where you can share with others the joy of this day is required. Getting together with others, fellowshipping, and enjoying the pause to work, a reminder of a pattern set on the 1st Sabbath 6000 years ago after He finished His creation.

Step 4 - Delight
The blessings will overtake you when you make an effort to keep His Sabbath. Delight will fill you as you experience peace and joy in His presence. You will be marked with His special sign, a unique notation between you and Him.
I am the Lord your God; follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.

They that have delight in the Sabbath of God, shall find delight in the God of the Sabbath.

Breathe
In Nature.

Many people go to nature to find God.
He whispers to us in these moments
"God did not intend the Sabbath to be a burden, but rather a time of joy. The Bible says that blessings come when we honor the Sabbath and call it a delight (Isaiah 58:13). Yeshua said the Sabbath was made for our benefit (Mark 2:27)."

With Family
But on the seventh day God stops not only to bless but to “hallow” or set apart the sabbath. The holiness of God is revealed not just in what he does but how he rests.
—Andy Crouch
When we rest with our family we show God we are dedicated to His will in our lives.
Sometimes making traditions help keep the Shabbat 'set apart' from the other 6 days. Some traditions are:
- Making Challah (Jewish type bread)
- Lighting Candles
- Opening the Sabbath with blessings and wine
- Dancing with songs that celebrate His Day.

Sabbath keeping isn’t a condition of getting into heaven. It is the condition we will find heaven when we get there.
